Senator Bernie Sanders recently introduced the American AI Sovereign Wealth Fund Act, arguing that AI has been built on the accumulated knowledge, creativity, and labor of workers, artists, and creators. His proposal asks a simple question: if AI benefits from human work, shouldn’t the public share in that value?
Whether people agree with this legislation or not, it reflects a broader shift in the conversation. People aren’t asking whether AI is powerful. They’re asking who consented, who controls the output, who receives credit, and who’s accountable when harm occurs.
