Looking Toward 2028: The Future of Campaign Voice

After hundreds of ads this midterm cycle, I’m already thinking about 2028. Here’s a recent moment that shows where things are heading: A campaign needed an updated disclaimer on a spot already running. The rapid response team needed same-day audio, but the actor was unavailable, dealing with a family emergency. With their consent, their synthetic voice was created & used for just that one line. The spot was able to remain on air. The talent approved the usage and was paid. That one line is the 2028 campaign in miniature.
Local Connection Starts With Casting

The creative stack is moving inside the AI chat window, bringing scripting, editing, and versioning into a single conversation. Much of the attention is on the picture: fast, cheap, and endlessly variable. Voice is the open lane. And voice is where trust lives.
By 2028, I expect a presidential campaign won’t make just one ad for Pennsylvania. It will make one for Erie, one for Scranton, and one for the Lehigh Valley... Potentially thousands of versions, with voices tailored to different communities and delivered in bulk, in days.
Synthetic voice will help deliver that scale. But everything starts with a great human read. Conversational. Local. Real. You can’t generate the neighbor next door. You have to cast them.
Credit, Consent, Control, and Compensation
Licensing & usage is key. The actor holds a kill switch. The actor hears and approves every line their replica says. Each version is counted. Every use is paid. All ads are disclosed and usage is trackable. At Lotas Productions, we’re casting, directing, and producing those human performances right now. As Lotas VoiceForward, we’re licensing the synthetic versions on those terms.
For voice actors who choose to participate, this can mean new work. A licensed voice can support many approved versions, with compensation for each agreed use.
For Campaigns who want to create trust with voters in the upcoming cycles, this means embracing transparency in production. Pictures can be generated. Trust still has to be cast.
