Looking for the perfect microphone?

People ask us all the time - which one should I get? Which microphone do you recommend? Unfortunately, there's no easy answer because:

  1. There a billion different mics on the market

  2. Every human has a unique voice

Why am I being so purposefully vague?

  • If you have a deep, bass-like voice, a shotgun mic can often make you sound over-modulated.

  • If you hit your S's and T's hard, some condenser mics can make your syllables sharp because of their recording crispness.

Lots of trial and error, but spend time discovering your voice type and working your way from there. Sonic Bids has a great blog post about how to choose a mic, and while it's geared toward musicians, it's also a great resource for voice talent.
